our efforts for planetary liberation continue. This time, we

arrival of the Goddess energy so that for the first time in 5000 years we will
have the chance to co-create our own spiritual destiny in harmony and replace

understanding. We need to have 144,000 people doing this visualization with
focus to achieve the desired effect.
On June 5th/6th
there will be a Venus transit, a rare cosmic event when planet Venus passes in
front of the solar disk. This Venus transit will mark a completion of the 8
year cycle of the Return of the Goddess which started with a previous Venus
transit in 2004. Goddess energy is a pure feminine essence of Love that will help
us easing the planetary liberation process. Both masculine energies of action
and feminine energies of receptivity are needed to complete this process
successfully. Removal of all dark entities will be a direct consequence of a
newly achieved balance of female and male energies on this planet.

Expected Cosmic Events in 2012 by Pane Andov

The Economic Crash in Iceland led the “Pots and Pans revolution” leading to some radical changes. Humanist Party members Julius Valdimarsson and Methusalem Thorisson have carried out an appraisal in terms of the sensibility of the people in general and on the political Scene wondering if such process can promote Human Rights based Real Democracy.

As humanists with a common aim of a Universal Human Nation the
authors of the report believe that what has happened and is happening in
Iceland is nothing special to Iceland, only a reflection of the same
development suffered all over the world, even though it might appear in a
different way and with different expression according to differences in
cultures and in location in the global kingdom of capitalism and
financial tyranny.
The events
Iceland has been subjected to the same neoliberal policies in the last three decades as most other western countries, bringing money and power into the hands of financial institutions and their faithful political guardians who have adjusted their lawmaking to meet their masters´ demands. In 2002 the major state banks were privatized and sold/given at a low price to the good friends of the major political parties, at that time Sjálfstæðisflokkurinn, the Independence party and Framsóknarflokkurinn, The Progressive Party.
In 6 years the new owners had increased the value of the banks to twelve times the size of the Icelandic State Budget. In October 2008 this bubble burst with the consequence that all the major banks in Iceland went bankrupt, the only three that had survived the crash of Lehman Brothers in New York.
The Government decided to guarantee all deposits in the banks without limit, a positive measure for old and ordinary people’s savings but the law also guaranteed the deposits of the rich and very rich, many of whom were responsible for the crash. Soon the IMF was asked to come to the rescue.
People started to gather in front of the Parliament building, banging pots and pans, shouting and making noise demanding that the Government should step down, the Director of the Central Bank (David Oddson, who had been prime minister for more than twenty years and had resigned in 2005 to take on this office) should be fired and those who suffered the consequences of the bank crash should not be made to bear the losses, rather the bankers and financial speculators responsible for it to happen should. They also demanded a new Constitution replacing the existing one written by the once ruling Danish king.
On January 23rd Geir Haarde and his entire Government resigned. On April 25th general elections took place leading to the formation of a coalition Government with the Social Democratic Alliance, the Independent Party and the Left Green Movement. The Director of the Central Bank was fired.
The New government continued to accept the IMF guidance which did nothing for the badly hit population. Britain and Holland demanded that the Icelandic State would guarantee deposits in outlets of Landsbankinn (one of the major banks) in their countries. It had promised sky high interests paid on the deposits before the crash. The Icelandic Public was expected to pay millions of Icelandic kronas for those empty promises of this private bank when it became bankrupt. The people of Iceland protested and demanded that President Olafur Ragnar Grimsson refuse to accept this claim. In a referendum 93% said no to accepting the claims. The government tried to make a new contract with the British and the Dutch but people protested again, and a new referendum again confirmed people refused to pay for the blunders of the banks. Although members of the general public were invited to contribute to writing a new Constitution, which has been handed to the Government, all demands of putting it for referendum or giving the people power to accept it or reject it have so far been rejected.
The activities
The Pots and Pans revolution consisted of massive protests in the first month after the bank crash where thousands of people took part, mainly in front of the Parliament. It was nonviolent all throughout but when some people started to throw stones at the police others from amongst the protesters made a human wall to protect the police.
An association was formed to fight for the interests of hard hit families with a membership of over 5.000 people still although the Government has more or less rejected their claims. Meetings took place in the biggest Cinema and other places where Ministers and high officials from the Government, from the Trade Unions and other influential bodies were invited to sit in a panel and answer questions from the public. They were broadcast in the National TV and had strong impact on the public.
Groups were formed assisting people that were about to lose their homes, others gathered around the homes of the bankers and businessmen demanding that they pay for the damage they caused. Some groups started to look for alternative economic models and financial system. An organization was formed to promote Real Democracy which put forward proposals of many radical democratic changes to the Committee which was writing the New Constitution, but few of those changes were included. An organization was formed called “Siðbót” or “Morality” actively supporting issues of human rights and the claims of the people. In the summer of 2009 an organization named “Alþingi götunnar” or the “Parliament of the Street” was formed. This informal organization consisted of the most active grass root organizations and political groups of the revolution, amongst them, the Humanist Party. This organization had a meeting in front of the Parliament every Saturday from autumn 2009 until spring 2010 with demands of compensation to families and individuals who suffered from the Crash and to reject the claims of the British and the Dutch to pay for the banks blunders.
The political child of the pots and pans revolution
The people’s revolution formed a Citizens Movement that put forward candidates in the elections in April 2009. The agenda was to uphold the demands of the revolution. Although four were elected they failed to carry out their stated commitments. So this is the sad story of the political child of the Pots and Pans revolution. One obvious reason for this was that the Citizens Movement was formed more or less around specific issues or demands (safeguarding the interests of those who suffered most from the Crash) and did not have any actual political program.
Participation of the Humanist Party
The slogan “Mennska framtíð,” “A Human Future,” became very prominent in the Pots and Pans revolution and it was very noticeably favoured by the media being the only one that had a positive reference and the only one pointing towards the future. All others were more or less denouncing the Government or demanding specific measures. The Humanist party had its main speaker in the first meeting of the Parliament of the Street emphasizing the importance of people starting to meet and communicate about a different society everywhere, in the schools and neighbourhoods and workplaces and about how the revolution should come from the people and be for the people. Creative posters, originally from Spain, denouncing the financial institutions with humour inspired many young people.
Conclusion
People showed remarkable solidarity with great common spirit, managed to dismiss the Government and the chief director of the Central Bank, stood up to the Financial institutions and refused to pay the debts of corrupt banks. A Political party was founded on the basis of the main demands of the people for compensation for their losses because of the Economic Crash. On the other hand the “Pots and Pans Revolution” did not promote radical demands for a new society nor a new economic system. The new government consists of the traditional parties, has no intention to change the banking system and is following IMF guidelines obediently to restore the old system and make sure that the tax payers should carry the burden.
There is amongst the activists some loss of spirit and the feeling that things will slide into the same old pattern. Nevertheless a few groups continue to work on constructive themes such as a new financial system and preparing the foundation for a democratic bank. The Humanist Party has monthly open meetings on Humanism and Democracy in Politics, discussing “Is Interest an Economic Cancer?”, “Is Speculation Economic Terrorism?” and “Let´s take the Power from the Banks”.
Finally
The question regarding the sensibility of the people and whether the bank crash and the “revolution” has changed the way people feel or think is a difficult one. On the surface nothing much seems to have happened and the 4 traditional major parties seem to have similar support as they had before the Crash. The political program is just the same as before and the Government celebrates at this exact moment that the IMF has finished its task and all their proposals of cutting costs of welfare, education and health has been met, having “restored the financial system”. On the other hand in the Opinion Polls 90% of the people have no faith whatsoever in the politicians and what can be sensed is a common discontent in spite of an incredible reluctance of people to let go of the old setting and open up to new alternatives.
However people have experienced their strength, the general trust towards the system has greatly diminished and many people have realized in a deeper manner the need for real change and Real Democracy.

Mysterious Structures Balloon From Milky Way's Core

Two huge bubbles that emit gamma rays have been found billowing from the center of the Milky Way galaxy, astronomers have announced.
The previously unseen structures, detected by NASA's Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope, extend 25,000 light-years north and south from the galactic core.
"We think we know a lot about our own galaxy," Princeton University astrophysicist David Spergel, who was not involved in the discovery, said during a press briefing Tuesday. But "what we see here are these enormous structures … [that] suggest the presence of an enormous energetic event in the center of our galaxy."
For now the source of all that energy is unclear, said study co-author Doug Finkbeiner, an associate professor of astronomy at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Gamma rays are the most energetic forms of light, and in space they tend to come from violent events such as supernovae or from extreme objects such as black holes and neutron stars. (See "Gamma-Ray Telescope Finds First 'Invisible' Pulsar.")
The newfound bubbles, meanwhile, are made of hot, charged gas that's releasing the same amount of energy as a hundred thousand exploding stars.
"So you have to ask, where could energy like that come from" in the Milky Way? Finkbeiner said.
Gamma-Ray Bubbles Signs of Milky Way Feeding?
One possible answer is that the gamma-ray bubbles are evidence of an ancient burst of star formation at the center of the galaxy. If a huge cluster of massive stars formed millions of years ago, the giants could now be dying together, creating an outbreak of supernovae.
In that case, the bubbles could represent "the accumulated energy over many millions of years," Finkbeiner said.
"Another hypothesis, which is perhaps even more dramatic, is that the [mostly dormant] black hole at the center of the galaxy is active for a little bit," he said.
Scientists know that a supermassive black hole resides at the center of our galaxy, and it didn't get so big by sitting quietly. Instead, the black hole must go through stages when it gobbles up massive amounts of material.
When galactic black holes are actively feeding, they tend to spew high-energy jets from their poles. Astronomers have found such active galactic nuclei elsewhere in the universe, but have never before seen any convincing proof of this process happening in the Milky Way. "So [the gamma-ray bubbles] might be the first evidence for a major outburst from the black hole at the center of the galaxy," Finkbeiner said.
The study team says that they have ruled out another theory that the bubbles could be proof of the mysterious substance known as dark matter.
According to theory, dark matter particles annihilate when they collide, releasing showers of new particles along with huge amounts of energy. It's thought that dense clumps of dark matter exist at the cores of galaxies, so looking for the results of collisions is one way astronomers hope to prove the substance exists.
"What bothers me about that explanation is those sharp edges that we see on the bubbles," Finkbeiner said, referring to the fact that the structures are well-defined domes.
Dark matter would have existed at the galaxy's core from the start, and the particles would have been continuously interacting.
"If something has been going on for billions of years and it is in a steady state, I would not expect to see a sharp-edged structure like this," Finkbeiner said.
Fermi Helps Pierce Gamma-Ray Fog
Finkbeiner and his team found the gamma-ray bubbles using data from Fermi's Large Area Telescope, the most sensitive gamma-ray detector yet launched.
The scientists then had to process the raw data so they could see through the "fog" of gamma rays that's made as high-energy electrons moving near the speed of light interact with light and interstellar gas in the Milky Way.

Further studies will be required to get at the true nature of the energy source blowing the bubbles, Princeton's Spergel said.
"But it is a striking image," he said, "and I think one that will be challenging astronomers over the coming years to do both future observational work and theoretical work to understand what's going on here and to make connections to other areas of galactic and extragalactic astronomy."

'Divine Intervention' interview with George Noory and David Wilcock on Coast to Coast am

Intuitive researcher and filmmaker, David Wilcock,
discussed how UFO intervention is thwarting efforts to start WWIII and
how this interference is part of an organized movement toward a golden
age of humanity. He dubbed these actions "divine intervention," since it

benevolent reasons. To that end, he specifically cited craft shutting
down nuclear weapons as an example of their positive intent. Given the

According to Wilcock, these benign UFOs are working in opposition against a group he called "the cabal" which consists of the power brokers behind the New World Order agenda. The leaders of the cabal, Wilcock said, are "openly and routinely interacting with a variety of extraterrestrial species," possess knowledge that humans are actually ET hybrids, and maintain stargates that allow them to leave the Earth at will. He contended that one of the key goals of the cabal, which has been planned for 300 years, is a "mass uncloaking of their true identity and their philosophy." This philosophy, he said, is rooted in Luciferianism, but has been corrupted over time to espouse ideals like "the manipulation and control of people for the betterment of self" and using occult rituals for personal gain.
Eventually, he said, this conflict between the benevolent ETs and the cabal will reach a crescendo as the planet shifts into a "golden age" as prophesied by religions and myths around the world. However, he claimed that the prophesies were "cleverly worded" by the ETs to trick the sinister "powers that be" into believing that mass disasters will befall the planet during this transition, thus distracting them and keeping them fearful. Based on his research, Wilcock explained that the shift into a "golden age" is not simply an overnight change for the human race but one that "requires a spiritual evolution to occur." This evolution, he said, will give the human race a greater understanding of its role in the universe as a whole. Wilcock expressed great optimism that the metamorphosis of the human race, coupled with the intervention of the ETs, will ultimately lead to the crumbling of the nefarious Luciferian cabal.

Solving the UFO Enigma
In the first hour, Col. John Alexander shared his thoughts on the UFO phenomenon. He declared that UFOs are real, but observed that the phenomenon is "more complex than we ever imagined." For example, he noted that UFOs appear in a wide variety of disparate forms, ranging from small balls of light to massive motherships. In order to truly solve the UFO enigma, Alexander said, the top minds on the planet need to feel that it is permissible to examine the phenomenon without putting their careers in jeopardy. The 9/11 Coverup FBI Whistleblower Sibel Edmonds
Sibel Edmonds Finally Wins
Sibel Edmonds’ new book, “Classified Woman,” is like an FBI file on the FBI, only without the incompetence.
The experiences she recounts resemble K.’s trip to the castle, as told by Franz Kafka, only without the pleasantness and humanity.
I’ve read a million reviews of nonfiction books about our government that referred to them as “page-turners” and “gripping dramas,” but I had never read a book that actually fit that description until now.
The F.B.I., the Justice Department, the White House, the Congress, the courts, the media, and the nonprofit industrial complex put Sibel Edmonds through hell. This book is her triumph over it all, and part of her contribution toward fixing the problems she uncovered and lived through.
Edmonds took a job as a translator at the FBI shortly after 9-11. She considered it her duty. Her goal was to prevent any more terrorist attacks. That’s where her thinking was at the time, although it has now changed dramatically. It’s rarely the people who sign up for a paycheck and healthcare who end up resisting or blowing a whistle.
Edmonds found at the FBI translation unit almost entirely two types of people. The first group was corrupt sociopaths, foreign spies, cheats and schemers indifferent to or working against U.S. national security. The second group was fearful bureaucrats unwilling to make waves. The ordinary competent person with good intentions who risks their job to “say something if you see something” is the rarest commodity. Hence the elite category that Edmonds found herself almost alone in: whistleblowers.
Reams of documents and audio files from before 9-11 had never been translated. Many more had never been competently or honestly translated. One afternoon in October 2001, Edmonds was asked to translate verbatim an audio file from July 2001 that had only been translated in summary form. She discovered that it contained a discussion of skyscraper construction, and in a section from September 12th a celebration of a successful mission. There was also discussion of possible future attacks. Edmonds was eager to inform the agents involved, but her supervisor Mike Feghali immediately put a halt to the project.
Two other translators, Behrooz Sarshar and Amin (no last name given), told Edmonds this was typical. They told her about an Iranian informant, a former head of SAVAK, the Iranian “intelligence” agency, who had been hired by the FBI in the early 1990s. He had warned these two interpreters in person in April 2001 of Osama bin Laden planning attacks on U.S. cities with airplanes, and had warned that some of the plotters were already in the United States. Sarshar and Amin had submitted a report marked VERY URGENT to Special Agent in Charge Thomas Frields, to no apparent effect. In the end of June they’d again met with the same informant and interpreted for FBI agents meeting with him. He’d emphatically warned that the attack would come within the next two months and urged them to tell the White House and the CIA. But the FBI agents, when pressed on this, told their interpreters that Frields was obliged to report everything, so the White House and other agencies no doubt already knew.
One has to wonder what U.S. public opinion would make of an Iranian having tried to prevent 9-11. Next, a French translator named Mariana informed Edmonds that in late June 2001, French intelligence had contacted the FBI with a warning of the upcoming attacks by airplanes. The French even provided names of suspects. The translator had been sent to France, and believed her report had made it to both FBI headquarters and the White House.
Edmonds translated other materials that involved the selling of U.S. nuclear information to foreigners and spotted a connection to a previous case involving the purchase of such information. The FBI, under pressure from the State Department, Edmonds writes, prevented her from notifying the FBI field offices involved. Edmonds has testified in a court deposition, naming as part of a broad criminal conspiracy Representatives Dennis Hastert, Dan Burton, Roy Blunt, Bob Livingston, Stephen Solarz, and Tom Lantos, and the following high-ranking U.S. government officials: Douglas Feith, Paul Wolfowitz, and Marc Grossman.
When Edmonds was hired, she was the only fully qualified Turkish translator, and this remained the case. In November 2001, a woman named Melek Can Dickerson (referred to as “Jan”) was hired. She did not score well on the English proficiency test, and so was not qualified to sign off on translations, as Edmonds was. Melek’s husband Doug Dickerson worked for the Defense Intelligence Agency under the procurement logistics division at the Pentagon dealing with Turkey and Central Asia, and for the Office of Special Plans overseeing Central Asian policy. This couple attempted to recruit Edmonds and her husband into the American Turkish Council and the Assembly of Turkish American Associations, offering large financial benefits. But these were organizations that the FBI was monitoring. Edmonds reported the Dickersons’ proposal to Feghali, who dismissed it.
Then Edmonds discovered that Jan Dickerson had been forging her (Edmonds’) signature on translations, with Feghali’s approval. Then Edmonds’ colleagues told her about Jan taking files out of other translators’ desks and carrying them out of the building. Dickerson attempted to control the translation of all material from particular individuals. Dennis Saccher, who was above Feghali, discovered that Jan was marking every communication from one important person as being not important for translation. Saccher attempted to address the matter but was shut down by Feghali, by another supervisor named Stephanie Bryan, and by the head of “counterintelligence” for the FBI who said that the Pentagon, White House, State Department, and Congress would not allow an investigation.
Had Edmonds understood the truth of that statement, it might have saved her years of frustration and stress, but it would have denied us the bulk of the revelations in her book. Dickerson threatened Edmonds’ life and those of her family. Edmonds lost her job, her reputation, her friends, and contact with most of her family members. She watched Congress cave in to the President. She watched the government protect the Dickersons by allowing them to flee the country. She listened to Congressman Henry Waxman and others in 2005 and 2006 promise a full investigation if the Democrats won a majority, a promise that was immediately broken when the Democrats took control of Congress in 2007. Edmonds was smeared in the media, and her story widely ignored when media outlets got parts of it right. The Justice Department claimed “States Secrets” and maneuvered for a cooperative judge (Reggie Walton) to have cases filed by Edmonds dismissed. The government classified as secret all materials related to Edmonds’ case including what was already public. The Justice Department issued a gag order to the entire Congress.
And Congress bent over and shouted “Thank you, sir, may I have another?”
As less confrontational approaches failed, Edmonds became increasingly an activist and an independent media participant and creator. Her story and others she was familiar with were rejected and avoided by the 9-11 Commission. She worked with angry 9-11 widows and with other whistleblowers to expose the failures of that commission. Disgusted with whistleblower support groups that only offered to help her when she was in the news and never when she needed help most desperately, Edmonds started her own group, made up of whistleblowers, called the National Security Whistleblowers Coalition. She started her own website called Boiling Frogs Post.
When an unclassified version of a report on Edmonds’ case by the Justice Department’s Inspector General was finally released, it vindicated her. Edmonds has received awards and recognition. Her story has been supported (with rhetoric, not action) by Congress members and backed up by journalists. It appears in this forthcoming film.
Coleen Rowley, another FBI whistleblower, one who was honored as a Time magazine person of the year along with two others, told me: “What I find so remarkable is Sibel’s persistence in trying every avenue and possible outlet in trying to get the truth out. When going up the chain of command in the executive branch and Inspector General internal mechanisms for investigating fraud, waste, and abuse went nowhere, she sought judicial remedy by filing lawsuits only to be improperly gagged by ‘state secrecy privilege’. Along the way she also sought congressional assistance, testified to the 9-11 Commission, and engaged with various media and other non-governmental organizations. It’s somewhat ironic that Sibel herself demonstrated such enormous energy and passion throughout this decade quite the opposite of the ‘boiling frog’ idiom she uses for her website as a warning to others. If her book can inspire readers to summon even 1/100th of the determination and resolve she has modeled, there’s hope for us!”
Yet, thus far, no branch of our government has lifted its little finger to fix the problem of secrecy and the corruption it breeds, which Edmonds argues has grown far worse under President Obama. That’s why this book should be spread far and wide, and read aloud to our misrepresentatives in Congress if necessary. This book is a masterpiece that reveals both the details and the broader pattern of corruption and unaccountability in Washington, D.C. Edmonds has not exposed bad apples, but a rotten barrel of toxic waste that will sooner or later infect us all — not just the whistleblowers like Sibel and the thousands of people in our government who see something and dare not say something for fear that we will not have their back.

I’ve read a million reviews of nonfiction books about our government that referred to them as “page-turners” and “gripping dramas,” but I had never read a book that actually fit that description until now.
The F.B.I., the Justice Department, the White House, the Congress, the courts, the media, and the nonprofit industrial complex put Sibel Edmonds through hell. This book is her triumph over it all, and part of her contribution toward fixing the problems she uncovered and lived through.
Edmonds took a job as a translator at the FBI shortly after 9-11. She considered it her duty. Her goal was to prevent any more terrorist attacks. That’s where her thinking was at the time, although it has now changed dramatically. It’s rarely the people who sign up for a paycheck and healthcare who end up resisting or blowing a whistle.
Edmonds found at the FBI translation unit almost entirely two types of people. The first group was corrupt sociopaths, foreign spies, cheats and schemers indifferent to or working against U.S. national security. The second group was fearful bureaucrats unwilling to make waves. The ordinary competent person with good intentions who risks their job to “say something if you see something” is the rarest commodity. Hence the elite category that Edmonds found herself almost alone in: whistleblowers.
Reams of documents and audio files from before 9-11 had never been translated. Many more had never been competently or honestly translated. One afternoon in October 2001, Edmonds was asked to translate verbatim an audio file from July 2001 that had only been translated in summary form. She discovered that it contained a discussion of skyscraper construction, and in a section from September 12th a celebration of a successful mission. There was also discussion of possible future attacks. Edmonds was eager to inform the agents involved, but her supervisor Mike Feghali immediately put a halt to the project.
Two other translators, Behrooz Sarshar and Amin (no last name given), told Edmonds this was typical. They told her about an Iranian informant, a former head of SAVAK, the Iranian “intelligence” agency, who had been hired by the FBI in the early 1990s. This is similar to John Todd's story of the Rock & Roll industry being controlled by Satan worshipping group within the dark cabal in the 1960's and 70's
The way these stories relate to 'Ascending the spiral of evolution' is this: Each of us must accept responsibility for what we have allowed to happen to our fellow human beings perpetrated by each one of us from time to time. Looking the other way while something dark happens to someone else is never acceptable. We must accept our humanness and dark natures. Only then can we move on and up in frequency into true harmony and joyfulness. There are stories yet to be told that are much more horrible than these. Read with detachment but understand that it was a reality on planet Earth and remains such until the day the private prisons open their doors and release all of the lost souls who will be helped and healed by those of us who are trained and also by our soon to arrive ancestors from the heavens.

"The Secret Meeting that Changed Rap Music and Destroyed a Generation"

After more than 20 years, I've finally decided to tell the world what I witnessed in 1991, which I believe was one of the biggest turning point in popular music, and ultimately American society. I have struggled for a long time weighing the pros and cons of making this story public as I was reluctant to implicate the individuals who were present that day. So I've simply decided to leave out names and all the details that may risk my personal well being and that of those who were, like me, dragged into something they weren't ready for.
Between the late 80's and early 90’s, I was what you may call a “decision maker” with one of the more established company in the music industry. I came from Europe in the early 80’s and quickly established myself in the business. The industry was different back then. Since technology and media weren’t accessible to people like they are today, the industry had more control over the public and had the means to influence them anyway it wanted. This may explain why in early 1991, I was invited to attend a closed door meeting with a small group of music business insiders to discuss rap music’s new direction. Little did I know that we would be asked to participate in one of the most unethical and destructive business practice I’ve ever seen.
The meeting was held at a private residence on the outskirts of Los Angeles. I remember about 25 to 30 people being there, most of them familiar faces. Speaking to those I knew, we joked about the theme of the meeting as many of us did not care for rap music and failed to see the purpose of being invited to a private gathering to discuss its future. Among the attendees was a small group of unfamiliar faces who stayed to themselves and made no attempt to socialize beyond their circle. Based on their behavior and formal appearances, they didn't seem to be in our industry. Our casual chatter was interrupted when we were asked to sign a confidentiality agreement preventing us from publicly discussing the information presented during the meeting. Needless to say, this intrigued and in some cases disturbed many of us. The agreement was only a page long but very clear on the matter and consequences which stated that violating the terms would result in job termination. We asked several people what this meeting was about and the reason for such secrecy but couldn't find anyone who had answers for us. A few people refused to sign and walked out. No one stopped them. I was tempted to follow but curiosity got the best of me. A man who was part of the “unfamiliar” group collected the agreements from us.
Quickly after the meeting began, one of my industry colleagues (who shall remain nameless like everyone else) thanked us for attending. He then gave the floor to a man who only introduced himself by first name and gave no further details about his personal background. I think he was the owner of the residence but it was never confirmed. He briefly praised all of us for the success we had achieved in our industry and congratulated us for being selected as part of this small group of “decision makers”. At this point I begin to feel slightly uncomfortable at the strangeness of this gathering. The subject quickly changed as the speaker went on to tell us that the respective companies we represented had invested in a very profitable industry which could become even more rewarding with our active involvement. He explained that the companies we work for had invested millions into the building of privately owned prisons and that our positions of influence in the music industry would actually impact the profitability of these investments. I remember many of us in the group immediately looking at each other in confusion. At the time, I didn’t know what a private prison was but I wasn't the only one. Sure enough, someone asked what these prisons were and what any of this had to do with us. We were told that these prisons were built by privately owned companies who received funding from the government based on the number of inmates. The more inmates, the more money the government would pay these prisons. It was also made clear to us that since these prisons are privately owned, as they become publicly traded, we’d be able to buy shares. Most of us were taken back by this. Again, a couple of people asked what this had to do with us. At this point, my industry colleague who had first opened the meeting took the floor again and answered our questions. He told us that since our employers had become silent investors in this prison business, it was now in their interest to make sure that these prisons remained filled. Our job would be to help make this happen by marketing music which promotes criminal behavior, rap being the music of choice. He assured us that this would be a great situation for us because rap music was becoming an increasingly profitable market for our companies, and as employee, we’d also be able to buy personal stocks in these prisons. Immediately, silence came over the room. You could have heard a pin drop. I remember looking around to make sure I wasn't dreaming and saw half of the people with dropped jaws. My daze was interrupted when someone shouted, “Is this a f****** joke?” At this point things became chaotic. Two of the men who were part of the “unfamiliar” group grabbed the man who shouted out and attempted to remove him from the house. A few of us, myself included, tried to intervene. One of them pulled out a gun and we all backed off. They separated us from the crowd and all four of us were escorted outside. My industry colleague who had opened the meeting earlier hurried out to meet us and reminded us that we had signed agreement and would suffer the consequences of speaking about this publicly or even with those who attended the meeting. I asked him why he was involved with something this corrupt and he replied that it was bigger than the music business and nothing we’d want to challenge without risking consequences. We all protested and as he walked back into the house I remember word for word the last thing he said, “It’s out of my hands now. Remember you signed an agreement.” He then closed the door behind him. The men rushed us to our cars and actually watched until we drove off.
A million things were going through my mind as I drove away and I eventually decided to pull over and park on a side street in order to collect my thoughts. I replayed everything in my mind repeatedly and it all seemed very surreal to me. I was angry with myself for not having taken a more active role in questioning what had been presented to us. I'd like to believe the shock of it all is what suspended my better nature. After what seemed like an eternity, I was able to calm myself enough to make it home. I didn't talk or call anyone that night. The next day back at the office, I was visibly out of it but blamed it on being under the weather. No one else in my department had been invited to the meeting and I felt a sense of guilt for not being able to share what I had witnessed. I thought about contacting the 3 others who wear kicked out of the house but I didn't remember their names and thought that tracking them down would probably bring unwanted attention. I considered speaking out publicly at the risk of losing my job but I realized I’d probably be jeopardizing more than my job and I wasn't willing to risk anything happening to my family. I thought about those men with guns and wondered who they were? I had been told that this was bigger than the music business and all I could do was let my imagination run free. There were no answers and no one to talk to. I tried to do a little bit of research on private prisons but didn’t uncover anything about the music business’ involvement. However, the information I did find confirmed how dangerous this prison business really was. Days turned into weeks and weeks into months. Eventually, it was as if the meeting had never taken place. It all seemed surreal. I became more reclusive and stopped going to any industry events unless professionally obligated to do so. On two occasions, I found myself attending the same function as my former colleague. Both times, our eyes met but nothing more was exchanged.
As the months passed, rap music had definitely changed direction. I was never a fan of it but even I could tell the difference. Rap acts that talked about politics or harmless fun were quickly fading away as gangster rap started dominating the airwaves. Only a few months had passed since the meeting but I suspect that the ideas presented that day had been successfully implemented. It was as if the order has been given to all major label executives. The music was climbing the charts and most companies when more than happy to capitalize on it. Each one was churning out their very own gangster rap acts on an assembly line. Everyone bought into it, consumers included. Violence and drug use became a central theme in most rap music. I spoke to a few of my peers in the industry to get their opinions on the new trend but was told repeatedly that it was all about supply and demand. Sadly many of them even expressed that the music reinforced their prejudice of minorities.
I officially quit the music business in 1993 but my heart had already left months before. I broke ties with the majority of my peers and removed myself from this thing I had once loved. I took some time off, returned to Europe for a few years, settled out of state, and lived a “quiet” life away from the world of entertainment. As the years passed, I managed to keep my secret, fearful of sharing it with the wrong person but also a little ashamed of not having had the balls to blow the whistle. But as rap got worse, my guilt grew. Fortunately, in the late 90’s, having the internet as a resource which wasn't at my disposal in the early days made it easier for me to investigate what is now labeled the prison industrial complex. Now that I have a greater understanding of how private prisons operate, things make much more sense than they ever have. I see how the criminalization of rap music played a big part in promoting racial stereotypes and misguided so many impressionable young minds into adopting these glorified criminal behaviors which often lead to incarceration. Twenty years of guilt is a heavy load to carry but the least I can do now is to share my story, hoping that fans of rap music realize how they’ve been used for the past 2 decades. Although I plan on remaining anonymous for obvious reasons, my goal now is to get this information out to as many people as possible. Please help me spread the word. Hopefully, others who attended the meeting back in 1991 will be inspired by this and tell their own stories. Most importantly, if only one life has been touched by my story, I pray it makes the weight of my guilt a little more tolerable.
